Ok I was kidding.. BUt here is a review of Online Movie Download Service that I prepared.

When I was little, I remember cycling to my small town's video store and renting 2 -3 VHS tapes. VHS rental was huge in the 80's because a lot of people own VCR but VHS tapes are still expensive. For an annual fee and about 3 bucks you could rent latest movies on VHS tapes.. I remembered that original movies on VHS tapes costs about 20 bucks 15 years ago... That's expensive no matter in what currency.

Now comes DVD rentals.. But sadly due to licensing problem we do not see much DVD rental stores around, atleast for my region anyway. I know most would blame on pirated DVD discs being rampant in Asia but if video stores are allowed to legally rent out "paperback version" of the DVDs I don't think we would have much piracy problem.

OK I will not dwell too deep into this whole piracy/ legal battle issue.. So let's get to reviewing shall we?. I found a few online movie downloads sites that offers thousands of titles that can be downloaded for your viewing pleasure. Some are legal, most are somewhat in the grey/ noir side. I'll try to be fair and review them the same.

1. Cinemanow (url)
Definately the crown jewel of online movie download service! They have huge listing of movies from more than 19 categories. They require that you use Internet Explorer and Microsoft Media Player 10 to make sure that their DRM (Digital Rights Management) software works correctly. There's no membership free and movies range from USD1.99 to USD3.99 per rental. Rental period is however for 24 hours.

You have to have a broadband connection to download these titles but their fast servers and superior streaming makes sure that you could be watching the stream in a matter of minutes. I speak of this from personal experience renting quite a few titles from CinemaNow.

I should warn you however that CinemaNow has a mature content section. However you re warned before entering such section.

2. Movielink (url)
Unfortunately for this reviewer, movielink has chosen not to serve their content to my region. I have heard and many good reviews of them but I cannot comment any further on their service. I do hope that they would open up to other regions fast.

3. Movie in Demand (url)
Ok here is one movie download service that boasts of having thousands of titles and allows members unlimited downloads for an annual free. Free is at USD 39.45 annual and USD 49.95 for lifetime membership. This is for an unlimited downloads of the latest movies. I did a quick browse and found that they have a huge collection. King Kong size collection of the latest and greatest. Some of the titles are still playing in cinemas in my region. Here comes my concerns..

I have concern that this is an illegitimate download site. I just can't see how they could offer unlimited downloads of their titles at such low low fee. I worry that in the end of the day members end up downloading from a p2p network of some variant and I cannot stress enough how this is illegal. You are responsible for your own action on the net.

Conclusion
In conclusion, I would recommend CinemaNow movie download service on top of many other sites on the net. I know that they are legal, they have a good range of titles. The titles are fairly new and pretty much in demand. They have fast streaming servers and most of the titles are about USD 1.99 per rental.

The cons of CinemaNow is that you have just 24 hours to watch the movies downloaded. You cannot (in my knowledge) copy them into DVD+R to view at your sweet DVD player setup box.

I would say stay away from shadowy movie download sites such as MovieInDemand. While you may get away with downloading from them, you are still committing an offence. So best to stay away.
