StartupCamp KL 2008! Must attend & there goes another weekend

Startup Camp KL 08 is going to be the largest unconference for entrepreneurs and startups in Malaysia. Over 300 entrepreneurs from all walks of life and sectors are expected to congregate in two full days of ideas exchange and making connections. Startup Camp is held in conjunction with the Global Entrepreneurship Week and it will be on the only National Level GEW event. It will be on 22nd and 23rd November.

Being an unconference, this event is organized by participants for participants. There will be no keynotes address, no special guest and no long boring lectures. It will be jam packed with new ideas and opportunities. If this is your first time attending an unconference, be prepared, for this is an ultra casual event.

For Malaysia's very first Startup Camp. We have divided it into 3 tracks. These tracks comprises of the General Entrepreneurship, Social Entrepreneurs and Technopreneurship. We have allocated slots of 45 minutes for the participants to conduct their sessions.

The session type range from discussion to presentation to round tables to games to anything you can think of. For those participants who wish to contribute a session can book their session at our Wiki,



As for the rest of the participant, we all have two crucial task.

Number 1. Participants should be actively participating in the sessions and share with others. You can share with your friends details about startup camp before the event or you can share what you learn from startup camp after attending it.

Number 2. Vote with your feet. Do remember you can vote for each sessions with your feet. If you find you cannot contribute to the sessions or you cannot add value to yourself or the rest in the session, it is polite to walk out and drop in to another session. If you do not find session that you are interested, you can always add on the board to start and impromptu session.

Cheeni Cum : A very different hindi movie

We're in kuantan for the weekend and munchkins and adik went of on open house invitations. I am stuck in front of the laptop trying to do a system walkthrough in hot and humid kuantan weather.

What's to keep me from goign mad with this documentation work is the telly that is seemed to be stuck on tv3 showing a hindi movie!

but wait! this is not a typical hindi movie. Infact I have not even saw any singging and turun naik bukit. The theme is very mature and the acting were of superb quality.

Starring Amitabh Bachchan as an older guy who fell for a woman half his age and the things surrrounding that. Superb cinematography and acting, and I can't believe I'm watching a hindi movie!

Happy Chinese New Year!

I wrote my first Windows Service Application today.
I did it on Visual Basic & Microsoft .Net 3.5 Platform.
And best of all I did it on Visual Studio 2008 Express Edition which is
Effin Free!!! Yeah Free Development Tool from Microsoft! You better believe that!

Big day indeed.

My service application basicly does this

1. Start up on boot and shutdown using windows service controler
2. Reads configuration from an XML file
3. Connect to SQL Server 2005 Express Edition (FOC software from Microsoft again!)
and get a list of clients to poll.
4. Extablish a connection to the clients and retrieve pre compiled string containing CPU, Memory & Hardisk Utilization.
5. Update SQL Server database.
6. Sleep 15 minutes for next run.

I'm taking the rest of the night off to rest because I'm driving back to KL early tomorrow morning. Bigger days tomorrow onward as I'm going to have to write my first full fledge ASP.net application as part of the application suite that I'm working on.

Sad parting of a good friend

Few nights ago I took munchkin's car for a final wash and I filled her up with petrol. It was our last trip to the petrol station because the very night the car was to change owner. We or rather I sold Munchkins' car because we decided to use the money to provide more for our Irfan. It saddens me to have to sold the car that I bought for Munchkins. I wonder I can ever make up for it.

My streamyx line down due to the jumper at the local exchange box was removed for unknown reasons even to tmnet! Stupid cows!
Now have been over 1 week without any solution from tmnet and I am stuck with dail up. MSC dying thanks to crappy people like telekom and TMNUT.

wow did I do that?

I wrote about my anger and disappointment in last few entries here and added it to Nuffnang innit blog aggregator yesterday. To my surpise the entry got very high "nang"s and right now tops the list at innit.


Not to say that I'm proud to be topping that list talking bad about Advertlets but the fact that the entry got a lot of "nang"s is really because a lot of people like me got affected and feels the same way.

Advertlets will have to conjure up miracles to regain bloggers and advertisers' trust in them. It would be an interesting story to follow up on in next few months.

This morning I was nonchalant about advertlet screwup and casually removed their adcode from my template. Now that I found out that the screw up actually costed me money from my earning from nuffnang, I am pissed.

I'm not mad at nuffnang for deducting the earning because it's true that due to the redirection, the advertisers are not getting the promised unique visitors. I fully support this step by nuffnang.

I'm sure the blogger community will respond negatively to advertlet screwup. I can see the demise of advertlet just around the corner for loosing teh trust of the blogging community & especially advertisers.

Advertlet, what a joke!

This morning, I found my blog as being redirected to a domain parking website. further investigation showed that the culprit was advertlet domain being redirected for domain expiry.
So off advertlet go from my template.

I mean I wouldn't trust a company that can't afford to keep track of their own domain expiry to keep track of how much I make from advertisement. No emails from advertlets to explain this matter what so ever even when the problem started from January 5th.

Amateurs.. I'll stick to nuffnang.

Major op to seize sex DVDs

MUAR: Police in Batu Pahat and here will launch a massive operation to nab those involved in distribution and in possession of the sex DVDs of Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek.

Muar police chief Asst Comm Mohammad Nasir Ramli said the operation would include door-to-door searches of residents suspected to be in possession of the banned material.

He said it was an offence to possess and distribute copies of the DVDs and that offenders would be charged under Section 292 of the Penal Code, which carries a three-year jail term or fine or both.

“We are urging those in possession of the DVDs to surrender them to the police or risk being charged in court.

“We want residents here to be aware of the offence before we start making house visits,” he said yesterday.

ACP Mohammad Nasir said the DVDs were first distributed in the town in limited copies by certain parties but it is believed that some irresponsible people had made duplicates.

He said those found trading or selling the DVDs would be punished appropriately, and added that checks would be carried out at suspected shops and DVD outlets in the district.

Asked if police would be investigating into who was responsible for the DVD, he said it was up to the Inspector-General of Police.

Residents here who did not get free copies of the DVDs were looking for them at DVD outlets although none were seen to be on sale, and no one would admit to having them.

One person said he was willing to pay RM50 for the DVDs as it involved a Cabinet minister while others just wanted to satisfy their curiosity.

“I want to look at the woman who caused political trouble not only for Dr Chua, but also for MCA and the country,” said taxi driver Ahmad Hamid.

It's all over the internet now... I doubt doing a major seize for the DVDs would help.

Irfan update

This morning we woke out and found Irfan's fever has gone down. ALhamdulillah .. BUT!!! he was covered with red spots all over his face and torso. Both Mama and Abah decided to immediately ditch work in the morning to take Irfan to his doctor at Tawakal. We arrived before the doc did, punya la awal pergi clinic!

Doc said he's ok, it was probably viral fever, so the spots usually comes out when the fever resided. The doc was weighing Irfan and accidentally bumped my Irfan's head on the wall.

I almost got up to introduce the doc to my fists.
